Fire Station Closures 2012. Beginning April 1, Eagle River Fire Protection District is no longer able to afford to keep all of its five Fire and Emergency Response Stations open 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. This decision is a result of the loss of approximately 25% of its property tax revenue beginning in 2012. Prior to this decision, the staff and the District’s Board of Directors has shrunk it’s 2012-2015 budgets, reduced operational expenses and eliminated several management positions in order to cut expenses.
