Fred Rumford

EVMD 2023 Board Candidate

EVMD Board Candidate

Candidate Questions:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Frederick Rumford, but my family and friends call me Fred. I am an authentic but rare, Colorado native. My parents bought a lot and built a house in Vail in 1965, and I have been fortunate to have lived and grown up in the Vail Valley. I have watched EagleVail transform from grassy fields to a community that offers year-round recreation. Skiing and spending time enjoying the outdoors have always been a major part of my life. I ski raced as a kid for Buddy Werner and Ski Club Vail. My passion for snow sports ultimately led me to a career in the ski industry, holding the position of Ski Instructor, Supervisor, Manager, and Ski and Snowboard School Director of Vail Mountain. My wife, daughter and I have lived in EagleVail since 1996 and we have watched it evolve into the tight-knit community it is today.

2. Why do you want to join the EVMD Board of Directors?

The EagleVail Metro District offers exceptional services which complement the unequaled amenities rarely found elsewhere in Eagle County. As a result, it has become a popular place to live, work and play. I would like to advocate for the EagleVail residents in the planning, improving, and preserving of EagleVail as it continues to grow and serve residents and visitors for generations to come.

3. What are some of your past leadership experiences?

I have held many leadership positions over the past 25 years, most recently as Senior Director of Skier Services of Vail Mountain with oversight of 2000+ employees. I have always enjoyed the rewards and challenges that come from leading others, by sharing my knowledge and providing opportunities to evaluate, analyze and guide others toward favorable outcomes. I have extensive experience with service on different boards, both Corporate based and non-profit. I have a reputation for taking a collaborative approach to problem-solving to ensure successful decision-making while being completely comfortable with sharing my thoughts.

4. What skills, resources, and expertise will you bring to the EVMD?

I am a people person and have extensive experience directing and managing clients and employees to ensure great guest interactions and exceptional experiences. I have a passion for numbers and accounting as well as in-depth experience with creating budgets and reading financial reports from my time working for Vail Resorts and held the position of Chairman of the Finance Committee as a Director on a previous board. Having lived in Eagle County most of my life I am well-connected and can draw upon my relationships with many community leaders, business owners, and residents of the valley.

5. What are your interests and/or hobbies?

Spending time with my wife and daughter is precious and incredibly important to me. I enjoy taking advantage of all the available activities in our great valley, such as skiing (both Alpine and Cross County) golfing, hiking, and biking. I feel very fortunate to live in an area that offers such a wonderful variety of recreational activities right outside our back door while maintaining its native character and natural environment. I am a Mountain- LIFER!
