EVMD Board Meeting 6/18/2026 Recap
6/18/2026 Board Meeting Recap
This is an unofficial summary of the June 18, 2026 Meeting of the Board of Directors of the EagleVail Metropolitan District held at the EagleVail Pavilion and online produced by EVMD Communications staff. A draft of the minutes will be posted to the EVMD website once they are composed.
Board members present: Chair Hopkins, Vice Chair Laughlin, Director Barcza, Director Copeland, and Director Rumford.
Irrigation Delivery Pipe Update
Working with a leak detection company, the issue and solution have been identified. This is a 150’ section between two manholes that will need to be repaired as soon as possible.
The Board unanimously approved a $100,000 emergency expenditure to complete the project.
In addition, Manager Steven Barber and Brent Barnum, Superintendent of Golf Courses & Parks, continue to work with Eagle River Water & Sanitation District and the EVMD’s water engineer consultant on the EVMD’s drought management plan. A 25% water reduction was recognized in June; 30% is expected in July; and up to 45% in August, pending stream flow and (hopeful!) monsoonal rains.
Communications Update
Kristin Kenney Williams, Commfluent Inc., highlighted the enhanced communications around the drought and fire mitigation efforts. Board discussion about purpose and intent of the Coffee and Apres Chats with a Board Member and Manager Barber. The July Coffee Chat will be July 8, 9-10 a.m., at the Grill and with Board Member Barcza.
Management Updates
Mark Sassi, Director of Golf Operations:
Regarding numbers and departments, EagleVail Golf is up in every area except for guest passes. 2026 Resident Passes are up YTD with 155 passes sold for $231,450. The feedback on how well the greens are being maintained and thus how well they are playing has been very positive.
Barnum, Superintendent of Golf Courses and Parks:
Highlighted that the new synthetic field is seeing increased activity. We are fortunate to have the new field as it plays a strong role in reducing our water use in this drought season. In the parks, as mentioned in the previous Board meeting, we will be implementing an all “organic” fertility program to West Park. This piolet program will allow us to evaluate the turf conditions over the season and to see if it is a direction the District would like to take in the future.
We received our annual flowers on June 9; we have significantly reduced the number of annual flowers in the community in order to contribute to our water saving efforts.
Barber, District Manager:
A lot of activity at courts and pool; bringing back Movie Nights at the pool. Pavilion Manager, Maryanne Cederstrom, is moving on from her position which she held for the past four years. We wish her the best as she begins the next chapter in her life. We are proud to announce that Rachel Braun has stepped in to fill her shoes. Rachel has been working with Maryanne and Kris O’Neill for the past year to help manage the day-to-day needs of the Pavilion.
We have officially completed installation of three additional permanent speed tables. Two are located at West Park and the third is at Deer Blvd, east. Additionally, the District plans to purchase a mobile radar feedback sign. We are hopeful this will provide another effective tool to help calm traffic and encourage safer driving throughout the community.
Several other transportation and safety projects are also scheduled for this summer, including painting crosswalks, repairing the orange delineators along Eagle Road, converting the temporary three-way stop at Eagle Drive and Eagle Road into a permanent traffic control measure and reinstalling the in-street crosswalk signs.
The Everkrisp Trail will open for the season Saturday, June 20.
About nine residents have expressed interest in participating in the West Park task force to discuss concept plan ideas and recommendations to the Board (goal is September.) A meeting will likely be scheduled late July, early August after summer operations is steady. A RFP for irrigation systems analysis at West Park will be issued soon.
Barcza asked for a list of all efforts to minimize water use (ie. going to all rock and no irrigation at our entry ways), and our effectiveness in water reduction.
Courts Update
Barber stated:
- Nine of our maintenance staff spent more than four hours cleaning the courts. While the playing surface is still not perfect it is in significantly better condition than it was previously.
- At the same time the crew installed UL-rated commercial-grade zip ties on all of the fence grommets.
Financial Update
Jon Erickson said sales tax continues to tail budget but ahead of last year. Revenues generally up over last year. Expense side looking good.
